150cc Upgrade Notes Part One

Part One contains the necessary item and short description for upgrading the engine capacity.

Necessity item #1
Cylinder Block
Yamaha FZ150 150cc 57mm Complete Cylinder Bore Kit

  • Cylinder Block
  • Piston
  • Piston Rings
  • Upper Gasket
  • Lower Gasket
  • Wrist Pin 14mm

Necessity item #2
Camshaft
The camshaft is probably the single most important component when it comes to determining the power characteristics of the engine.

  • *Yamaha FZ150 Original Camshaft - Stock Electric Starter Useable, Low Profile Characteristics.
    Suggested (0.10mm Intake & 0.15mm Exhaust For Valve Clearance)
  • *CMS Camshaft – Balance On Review & Comments. Good Acceleration & Top End. (need confirmation on decompression slot info)
    Suggested (0.10mm Intake & 0.15mm Exhaust For Valve Clearance)
  • Kawahara Black Cam with decompression Pin. Stock Electric Starter Useable.
    Suggested (0.06mm Intake And 0.08mm Exhaust For Valve Clearance)
  • CMS Camshaft (T) – With Decompression Slot, Compatible With Stock Decompression Pin. Stock Electric Starter Useable.
    Suggested (need more info & update on this camshaft)

Necessity item #3
Valve Spring
  • Yamaha FZ150 Original OEM Valve Spring. RPM Support Max at 12500rpm.
  • CMS Valve Spring Or Any Other Aftermarket Valve Spring That Support Higher RPM.
Objective - For higher RPM support & to prevent valve float.

Carburetor
Carburetor Mikuni VM22 (Stock Carburetor)
Mikuni VM22 rejet Size, Main Jet Range #110* - 115 & Pilot Jet #22.5
(Stock Main Jet #105 & Pilot Jet #20.0)

Main Jet Upgrade Size Is Available In #110, 115, 120 & 125
Pilot Jet Upgrade Size Comes In #22.5 & 25.0

*Notes/Tips: If You Increase the piston Size By 1mm, You Also Need To Increase The Size Of Main Jet By One Size.
(Example: Standard = 100 > Increase To 101). Use the closes jetting size available.

Necessity item #5
Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI)
Stock CDI is useable.

Stock CDI With TPS Degree Adjustment 9600 Rpm Max (Optional)
Stock Spring Valve Support 10000 Rpm Max.
To Adjust TPS Degree:
1. Set Idle Rpm To 1300-1500 RPM.
2. Set Digital Avo To Dc Voltmeter, Connect (+) To Yellow, (-) To Black-Blue Wire.
3. Adjust Your TPS Position By Loosen Its Nut To Get Avo Value Between 0.63-0.73V

Aftermarket Racing CDI
  • BRT Smart Click CDI
  • Apido Racing CDI
  • Rextor Racing CDI
  • Any Other Aftermarket CDI.
Recommended Setting at 11000 RPM, Max redline at 12000 RPM (For Durability & Daily Usage). The extra boost provide more higher top end for quick overtaking big and heavy vehicles on the highways.

Exhaust System
Stock exhaust modification, front manifold replace with 26mm. 3 section of exhaust filter cage removed.

The above image is just to get the basic idea on how to modified the stock exhaust for better air flow from the combustion chamber removing air restriction through the exhaust chamber outlet.
Other alternative is to get an a ready made aftermarket exhaust system installed or have it custom made by a qualified individuals/exhaust shops.

*Notes: Cylinder Upgrade from 54mm stock to 57mm & above is advisable not more than 30mm on front manifold. Use Gas welding only.

Necessity item #7
Air Filter
Change to an aftermarket air filter to make the carburetor breath easier, better air flow.

*Notes: Stock air filter cover can be altered like the K&N air filter in the above picture or totally remove the air filter cover.

Final Drive Ratio
Wheels / Tyre / Sprocket Combination Suggestion
70/90 front 80/90 rear. Sprocket 15/37 – 15/36 
80/90 front 90/90 rear. - Sprocket 15/37 15/36 16/39*
80/80 front 90/80 rear. - Sprocket 15/36
90/80 front 100/70 rear. - Sprocket (need more info & update)
Preference for: yamaha lc135 shark block racing set fz150 x1r racing head
